U.S. shrimp imports begin to rebound, but prices remain low

Data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) show that the United States imported 73,617 tons of frozen #shrimp products in August 2023, a year-on-year increase of 3%. This is a rebound after 13 consecutive months of year-on-year declines in import volume.
Meanwhile, August data showed that nine of the top 20 shrimp product suppliers saw an increase in trade volumes. But on the other hand, import prices remain low. The average import price in August was $8.14/kg, a year-on-year decrease of 12%; the monthly import volume was nearly US$600 million, a year-on-year decrease of more than 10%.
In the first eight months of this year, the United States imported 504,811 tons of shrimp products, a year-on-year decrease of 13%, and the import value was approximately US$4.2 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 24%.undefined
