In the 26th week of 2025 (June 23-29), the price of tilapia in Guangdong, China continued to fall, while the markets in Hainan and Guangxi remained stable. Industry insiders analyzed that the high temperature weather and the seasonal peak in the market caused Guangdong farmers to accelerate the sale of fish, and processing companies took the opportunity to lower the purchase price. In the short term, the market is still facing downward pressure.

In Zhanjiang and Maoming, the main tilapia producing areas in Guangdong, the purchase price of raw fish of 500-800 g by processing plants fell to 8.1 yuan/kg (about 1.13 US dollars/kg), down 0.2 yuan/kg from the previous week. In contrast, the ex-factory price of raw fish of the same size in Hainan and Guangxi remained stable at 8.2 yuan/kg and 8.6 yuan/kg respectively.

A processing company in Guangdong said that the local tilapia supply has increased significantly recently, so the company has lowered the purchase price and expects the supply to increase further in the coming weeks. In the Hainan market, prices remain stable as processing plants continue to purchase to meet the demand for US orders. An industry insider in Hainan said: "Currently, the price of fish in Hainan is stable, processing plants maintain normal production rhythm, and fish farmers are also selling fish as planned."

The decline in fish prices in Guangdong this time is not only due to seasonal factors, but also to the recent high temperatures in South China. The high temperatures have prompted farmers to speed up the pace of fish production to avoid the risks of high temperatures. The fish fry were released between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025 have now reached market specifications, and the supply has naturally increased recently, so processing plants have also taken the opportunity to lower prices.

At the same time, the slowdown in demand in the US market also suppressed domestic tilapia prices. In week 25 (June 16-22), prices of both frozen and fresh tilapia fillets in the US fell slightly, mainly due to inventory replenishment and weakened seasonal demand. The wholesale price of large-sized frozen products was under pressure, while that of small-sized products was relatively stable. Although the United States announced tariff reductions on some Chinese goods in May, Chinese tilapia still faces a cumulative tariff of 55%, making buyers cautious.
